When they think about learning another language, people often make the mistake of only considering English and disregarding everything else. While it’s true that it is the main language to learn nowadays, it is not the only one out there. In this article, I am going to talk about the French language and French summer camps that SoloCampamentos has to offer.
French is the official language of 27 countries, is spoken across 5 continents by more than 220 million people and is the third most spoken language online.
Learning a language is a huge opportunity and a great asset for kids to have for the future, opening up so many professional possibilities. Nowadays, career opportunities can spring up anywhere, and the more prepared your kids are for living abroad, the more opportunity they will have to move around the world, doing their ideal job. Canada, Belgium and Switzerland are just some of the countries that offer huge job opportunities for French-speakers.
But French can be a useful asset to have, without even setting foot outside your home country. According to data from the French embassy in Spain, 9 of the 100 biggest companies in Spain are French, and look for French in job selection processes, making this a huge advantage in terms of employability. Even beyond the work side of things, knowing French is also a huge benefit when it comes to travelling, as it allows you total immersion when you go to countries that speak it.
Another aspect is study. If your kids start to learn French when they arrive at university, they have the option to go France as an Erasmus student, with all the cultural and intellectual benefits that this brings with it.
And even before university, your kids can enjoy all that France has to offer. The Institut Francais (French Institute), which is the Official Centre of the French Foreign Affairs Department, runs camps in France and other French-speaking places, aimed at both young people and adults, giving you the chance to go to a camp with your kids.
All their French camps include a minimum of 15 hours a week of classes that can include specialised workshops, based on level, with sports and cultural activities and trips out.
French camps are an extremely efficient way of learning and becoming fluent in the language. The Institut Francais runs camps in France, Switzerland and Canada, where you can immerse yourself in the culture and language in the different countries. As well as this, the French camps are not just aimed at helping the children to study but at helping them escape from their everyday lives and do various activities. In this way, they both enjoy the country they are in and make friends with the other children that are with them on this adventure.
The Institut Francais offers total immersion camps, for 6 years and older without classes, and for 12 years and older with classes. All these come with full board service, transport from and to the airport (or a meeting point in the southeast of France) and of course, 24 hour supervision to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay. If you are confused or don’t have the information you need, they can also help you to choose the right camp. Having someone to advise you on which programme is best for what you’re looking for really is a massive help.
The Aroeven camps and UCPA motto is to educate the citizens of the future. They do this through a variety of programmes, all of them promoting respect, sharing with others or contact with nature, all of this within a friendly environment, ideal for young children.
So there are many reasons not to disregard French. Learning languages is important for the future of our children and the sooner they start to learn it, the easier they will find it later on in life. Going to a French summer camp in France this year is a great opportunity for your children, and a huge step along the way to a promising future.
