It is increasingly common to send our children who are still minors to study or spend part of the holidays in a summer camp abroad.

If your underage child is going to travel abroad alone for the first time, you must take into account a series of requirements so that everything goes as you expect and your children can enjoy an unforgettable stay. It is not always possible for mothers and fathers to accompany their children to the summer camp, either due to scheduling problems, work or the cost of the plane ticket itself. In these cases, it is normal for the child to travel with an escort service depending on the age and also on the airlines, since not all of them have the same policies on this matter.
The most important thing is to meet the necessary requirements for a minor to start the trip.

In Spain, the Spanish minors who travel outside the national territory, in addition to carrying the ordinary travel documents always in force (passport or National Identity Document, in its case), the corresponding ministerial authorities demand that the departure of the minor from the national territory by means of a signed declaration of permission to travel outside the national territory. This is to guarantee that the minors who travel outside the country have the authorization of the people who hold their parental authority

In the case of foreign minors residing in Spain, their legal representatives must go to their consular authorities to complete the appropriate documentation in accordance with their national legislation.

The travel authorizations issued in accordance with this Instruction will be valid for 90 days from their issuance. Therefore, fathers and mothers whose children are going to travel abroad must go to the offices of the National Police or the Civil Guard within 90 days prior to the date of departure to obtain authorization.

It is also important to keep in mind that it is not necessary for your daughter to be present to give you the authorization. Only the presence of one of the parents or legal representatives will be necessary.

It is highly recommended to consult the airline in which you are going to travel, so that they can confirm if they accept this type of traveler and what documentation they will ask for.

It must be taken into account that in the case of minors traveling alone or accompanied by adults who do not exercise parental authority, border agents have the power to carry out a thorough inspection of travel documents and receipts, always to guarantee the safety of minors and that they are not traveling without the authorization of their parents or legal representatives.

Minors traveling outside of Spain must carry the following travel documentation with them:

  • Valid DNI to travel outside the national territory, and within the European Union, the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation, or your valid Passport if traveling outside these territories.
  • In the case of foreign minors who are in Spain for their departure from the national territory, they must carry the Passport of their respective State or valid Travel Document in force.

On many occasions it is the camps themselves that organize the transfers to their location. This is a very good option for fathers and mothers, since they meet at a specific point with other participants and from there they make the transfer accompanied by their companions and camp monitors.

In the case of summer camps abroad, organizations normally offer the pick-up service at the airport and the transfer to their facilities, thus offering the peace of mind that your child will be picked up and taken to their camp center safely. .

In Solocampamentos we also offer you our help and advice for the transfer of your children on trips abroad. Do not hesitate to contact us for any questions you may have.

It should also be taken into account that it is not recommended that the first time a minor travels by plane without their parents, it is to go to a camp. A very crowded and large airport can be an overwhelming place for a child who has never had that experience. If there is also a problem, such as cancellations, delays, etc., it is better for the minor to be familiar with stays at airports.

Find out before reserving a plane ticket, the age limits and conditions established by each airline, since each one has its own. It is best to contact the airline directly in order to have the most accurate information in each case. For minors under this age, some airlines offer an escort service for minors.

The most important thing, above all, when the minor travels abroad alone is that they have all the documents they will need during their stay. These include the identity document, the authorization signed by the legal guardians, the addresses of the camp and home, and contact telephone numbers for emergencies.

Find out well about the requirements for minors traveling alone: Each airline and country may have their own policies and requirements, so it is very necessary that you talk to the airline and be able to have everything ready in time to start the trip.

Prepare everything you need in advance: Make sure you have all the necessary documents:

  • Passport or Identification Card, depending on the place of destination
  • Air ticket.
  • Address, name and contact and emergency telephone number of the camp you are going to.

Keep in mind that it will be very useful to prepare your luggage well in advance. To do this, you can consult the recommendations regarding equipment that each camp gives you, since they will vary depending on the weather and the activities that are going to be carried out.

As you will see, these are just a few tips, but very useful since they will help you organize everything in the best way and in the shortest possible time. The important thing is that your child feels comfortable and safe on his trip so that he can enjoy his stay and get the most out of it. In addition, you can also enjoy a few more relaxed days knowing that your daughter is happy and, above all, supervised and cared for at all times by expert hands.
